The originator of the festival was Marek Żydowicz, who, after years of working in the film industry, noticed the lack of such an event in Poland. The first edition of the festival was held in Toruń in 1993. Throughout its history, the Camerimage festival has attracted many well-known directors, cinematographers, actors and other representatives of the film industry from all over the world. During the festival, the latest films are presented, and discussion panels, workshops and special screenings are organised. Camerimage is also an opportunity to honour outstanding cinematographers.
